Karachi: Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab emphasized the critical role of leadership in the development of organizations, highlighting the challenges faced by leaders in making bold decisions. He shared these insights with officers of the Central Superior Service during a senior management course at the National Institute of Public Administration (NIPA) in Karachi.
According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, Mayor Wahab, a young politician, noted that the nature of Deputy Commissioners has evolved since the 1990s, and he called for young and determined officers to break free from the status quo to drive change. The event was attended by Director General Dr. Syed Saifur Rahman and other officials. During his visit, Mayor Wahab, in collaboration with the Director General of NIPA, participated in a flag-hoisting ceremony and planted a sapling.
Mayor Wahab underscored the importance of education and experience in achieving expertise in any field. He mentioned his efforts in law to continue learning and progressing. In discussing municipal finances, he explained that he has increased taxes through private partnerships to bolster Baldia Uzma Karachi’s income. While the current system places Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation and Solid Waste Management under the mayor’s jurisdiction, he does not have control over railways or Port Qasim.
