Mayor of Karachi Directs Swift Completion of Road Projects and Infrastructure Improvements

Karachi: Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab has mandated the Engineering Department to finalize ongoing road construction, repair, and carpeting initiatives within a week. He highlighted the significance of enhancing the city’s basic infrastructure, stressing the need to prevent negligence, and called for an increase in machinery and manpower to hasten developmental efforts. Key projects emphasized include the construction work on I.I. Chundrigar Road, Liaquat Road, Mai Kolachi Road, M.T. Khan Road, Old Queens Road, Mumtaz Hasan Road, and Jinnah Bridge.

According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, the directives were issued during a high-level meeting chaired by Mayor Wahab with officials from the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s Engineering Department. The meeting was attended by Municipal Commissioner Afzal Zaidi, Director General Engineering Azhar Ali Shah, chief engineers, XENs, project directors, and other officials. The Mayor underscored the necessity of converting streetlights to LED and establishing permanent lighting arrangements for all historical buildings. He called on the project director, engineers, and other officials to address citizens’ issues effectively and prioritize public trust restoration through swift relief measures.

During the meeting, the Mayor reviewed the current progress on road, bridge construction, and streetlight maintenance in various city areas. He pointed out that deteriorating roads are causing commuting challenges for citizens, urging for swift completion of resurfacing and repair work. He also instructed the removal of obstacles along the road from KPT to Three Swords Clifton to ensure smooth traffic flow and demanded lane marking on Jinnah Bridge within a week post-resurfacing, alongside the restoration of streetlights on Qayyumabad Bridge.

Further directives included expediting carpeting work on M.A. Jinnah Road, Rashid Minhas Road, Kashmir Road, Korangi 8000 Road, Shafiq Mor, and other localities. He ordered the removal of additional poles on I.I. Chundrigar Road and the immediate completion of ongoing developmental schemes in District West and District Central. The development on G.Alana Road is expected to conclude by next week for public access.

Mayor Wahab emphasized transparency and quality in the use of funds for road construction and repairs, aiming for durable infrastructure. He insisted on close monitoring of all works to ensure their timely completion. The meeting also featured a briefing on road construction and repair, covering both completed and ongoing projects. The Mayor reaffirmed that city development and improvement are top priorities, encouraging officials to promptly implement directives and enhance the city’s infrastructure to provide maximum facilities to citizens.
