Karachi, Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab emphasized the importance of preserving historical buildings in their original state, reaffirming his commitment to maintaining Karachi’s rich heritage. This statement was made during his visit to the city’s iconic historical sites, Khaliq Dina Hall and Denso Hall, located on MA Jinnah Road.
According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, Mayor Wahab, during his visit on Friday, stressed that the design, structure, and elevation of historical buildings in Karachi must remain unchanged to preserve their historical significance. The Mayor was accompanied by several key officials, including Municipal Commissioner Syed Afzal Zaidi, Mayor Karachi’s Representative for Political Affairs Karamullah Waqasi, and other prominent figures.
Mayor Wahab highlighted Karachi’s glorious past and the city’s responsibility to protect its historical heritage. He mentioned plans for a museum that will house rare objects, maps, and photographs pertinent to the history, civilization, and culture of Karachi. This initiative aims to provide researchers, students, and citizens with a deeper understanding and awareness of the city’s history.
Acknowledging past efforts to remove encroachments and restore historical sites, the Mayor indicated that further steps are planned to enhance the beauty and accessibility of these places. He took strict notice of the installation of iron security gates at historical sites and directed their immediate removal, stating that no alterations can be made to the design of such significant buildings.
Mayor Wahab underscored the historical importance of Khaliq Dina Hall, recalling its role during the British period when Maulana Muhammad Ali Johar and his associates were tried there. He assured that Khaliq Dina Hall and its library, as historical assets, will be preserved for future generations.
The Mayor also stated that with the cooperation of relevant institutions, all historical sites and buildings in Karachi will see improvements, with repair work being a priority. He expressed his commitment to making the library at Khaliq Dina Hall more functional and to enhancing the overall condition of this historical location.
