Mayor of Karachi Announces Major Infrastructure and Tax Collection Initiatives

Karachi, Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab outlined significant new initiatives regarding municipal tax collection and infrastructure development during a press conference at the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation building. These initiatives include a landmark decision by the Sindh High Court that will significantly impact the city’s finances and development projects like the Malir Expressway and K-IV water project.

According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, the recent court ruling allows the municipal utility tax to be collected through electricity bills, a method expected to generate over 4.4 billion rupees annually, enhancing the city’s financial stability. The Mayor emphasized the importance of this ruling for efficient tax collection and discussed upcoming city council approvals for further tax collection measures.

Additionally, Mayor Wahab highlighted several critical infrastructure projects, including a 12 billion rupee initiative to enhance Karachi’s water supply from Hub Canal and the progress on the Malir Expressway. He called on the Prime Minister to expedite the K-IV water project, which is crucial for addressing the city’s water scarcity issues. The Mayor also addressed the need for comprehensive strategies to improve traffic management and urban development in Karachi.
