Karachi, Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab has emphasized the role of public-private partnership projects in improving Karachi’s infrastructure. He urged industrialists in the city to contribute to municipal taxes, paralleling their commitments to federal taxes, to support local development and job creation.
According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, Mayor Wahab’s remarks were made during a meeting with leather industry industrialists and exporters at the Pakistan Tanners Association (PTA) office in the Korangi Industrial Area. He stressed the importance of such collaborations in enhancing industrial and commercial activities, ultimately benefiting the local employment landscape.
The Mayor highlighted the ongoing efforts by the Municipal Corporation of Karachi in repairing and restoring roads and bridges in the Korangi Industrial Area. He assured that these efforts would soon result in positive changes in the area.
In attendance were Chairman of the Pakistan Tanners Association Muhammad Shafi, Vice Chairman Tahir Iqbal, Convener CPLC M. Danish Khan, Chairman of the Infrastructure Committee Aziz Ahmed, and other dignitaries. Mayor Wahab underlined the significance of developing industrial areas and addressing their challenges as a priority. He recognized the critical role of the leather industry and its contribution to the country’s economic stability.
Mayor Wahab detailed KMC’s collaboration with industrial associations in Korangi to address water and sewage issues and improve basic infrastructure. Several projects are underway and are expected to be completed promptly. He reaffirmed KMC’s commitment to equitable development across various areas of Karachi, with special focus on both residential and industrial zones.
Muhammad Shafi, Chairman of the Pakistan Tanners Association, expressed the association’s full support for the Mayor’s initiatives for city development. He acknowledged the Mayor’s visit to PTA as enlightening regarding municipal utility tax and the ongoing development projects in Karachi. Shafi assured the Mayor of the PTA’s cooperation in municipal tax payments, recognizing it as beneficial for the city’s overall well-being. The members of the PTA expressed their desire for continued development and problem-solving initiatives, not only in industrial zones but throughout Karachi.
