Mayor Marks Annual Urs with Shrine Visit and Local Holiday

Karachi: Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab visited the shrine of Hazrat Abdullah Shah Ghazi on Wednesday, laying a ceremonial chadar and offering fateha on behalf of the city’s citizens during the annual Urs.

During his visit, the Mayor expressed that the city takes pride in hosting the revered shrine of Hazrat Abdullah Shah Ghazi. He noted the large number of devotees who travel from Karachi and other regions to participate in the Urs. The city administration, he mentioned, has made necessary arrangements for the event.

Mayor Wahab highlighted the global and local significance of the shrine, with devotees visiting from various parts of the world and Pakistan. He emphasized the role saints have played in spreading the teachings of Islam and expressed a commitment to honoring their contributions.

The Mayor mentioned a widely held belief regarding the protective influence of Hazrat Abdullah Shah Ghazi’s presence in the city, which is thought to shield Karachi from natural disasters.

In a move to honor the event, the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation declared a local holiday on Thursday, June 19, coinciding with the Urs. All KMC offices, barring essential services, will remain closed, as per a City Council resolution from January 2005.

The announcement underscores the cultural and spiritual importance of the Urs in Karachi’s community life, reflecting the city’s rich heritage and the enduring legacy of Hazrat Abdullah Shah Ghazi.
