Mayor Karachi Pledges No Privatization of Water Corporation; New Roads Inaugurated in Kemari District

Karachi, 14 Oct 2023: Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab announced that the Water Corporation will not undergo privatization, and in an effort to enforce municipal laws, the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) will establish its own police station. He disclosed plans to appoint 25 municipal inspectors who will levy fines for any breaches of municipal regulations. These revelations came as the Mayor spoke to the media after inaugurating the roads connecting Fisherman Gate to Machhar Colony in the Kemari district.

Present during the event were Deputy Mayor Karachi Salman Abdullah Murad, KMC’s Spokesperson for Political Affairs Karamullah Waqasi, Chairman Maripur Town Humayun Khan, and other local leaders.

Emphasizing on collaboration, Mayor Karachi noted that entities such as KMC, Town Municipal Corporation, and the UCs are all cooperating. He acknowledged the presence of challenges, pointing out that while many are committed to progress, others present hurdles. Expressing gratitude for the trust placed in the People’s Party by the residents of Karachi, he assured that their confidence would not be misplaced and that their commitment was towards holistic service without bias. He optimistically projected that the Pakistan Peoples Party would emerge as the most significant entity in the Sindh province in the upcoming elections.

Detailing the infrastructural developments, he pointed out the benefits of the newly constructed roads, specifically for fish traders, ensuring smoother business operations. Mayor Karachi reiterated the city’s ongoing transformation and the global attention it has garnered. Infrastructure enhancement, according to him, remains a top priority, and he asserted the importance of equitable development across Karachi. He underscored the efforts to enhance the performance of local bodies and stated the Pakistan People’s Party’s singular motive is to serve the inhabitants of Karachi.

Drawing attention to persistent challenges, Mayor Karachi highlighted the battles against electricity issues, water shortages, and land mafia that have been waged over the past months. He stressed that to effectively counter water theft, the underlying mafia needs to be eliminated, and robust systems must be put in place to deter illicit activities in the future.
