Masarat Alam Butt Calls for Protests on Burhan Wani’s Martyrdom Anniversary

New Delhi, Illegally detained Chairman of All Parties Hurriyat Conference, Masarat Alam Butt, has urged Kashmiris to commemorate the eighth anniversary of Burhan Wani’s martyrdom with rallies and seminars.

According to Kashmir Media Service, from Tihar Jail, Masarat Alam Butt issued a call to action for Kashmiris on both sides of the Line of Control to honor the memory of Burhan Wani and his associates on the anniversary of their martyrdom. He emphasized that their sacrifices ignited the flame of Kashmir’s freedom movement. Alam Butt described Wani as a figure of resistance against “imperialist India” and a beacon for Kashmiri youth, affirming the region’s ongoing struggle for self-determination.

Alam Butt called for unity among Kashmiris to intensify their freedom struggle and to resist what he described as the enslavement by India. He implored the people to mark the anniversary with events that could draw international attention to the situation in Jammu and Kashmir, highlighting the brutalities reported in the region.

The remembrance also comes with a stark reminder of the circumstances surrounding Wani’s death, labeled by Butt as a “fake encounter” by Indian troops on July 8, 2016, in Kokernag area of Islamabad district.

Further tributes to Wani were echoed by other APHC leaders, including Molvi Bashir Ahmad Irfani and Abdul Samad Ingilabi, each reinforcing the commitment to the Kashmiri freedom movement and praising Wani’s pivotal role in its recent history. Statements from additional leaders like Imtiaz Ahmed Reshi and Muhammad Aqib also celebrated Wani’s extraordinary impact on the movement.
