Maryam Nawaz Sharif Hosts Defense Attachés at Lahore Fort


Lahore: Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif engaged in a luncheon meeting with defense attachés from 16 countries, including the United States, Russia, Germany, and Japan, at Lahore’s historic Royal Fort. The event aimed to foster diplomatic relations and showcase the cultural heritage of Punjab.



According to a statement by Chief Minister of Punjab, the gathering included defense attachés from countries such as Thailand, Indonesia, Libya, Malaysia, and others. Maryam Nawaz Sharif welcomed the guests and their families to the Royal Fort, emphasizing the cultural significance of Lahore. The guests were treated to a tour of the historic site, riding colorful rickshaws and appreciating the world’s largest picture wall at the fort.



The luncheon featured traditional local cuisine, offering a taste of Lahore’s culinary heritage. During her address, Maryam Nawaz Sharif highlighted Lahore’s role as the cultural heart of Pakistan, citing landmarks like Badshahi Mosque and Shalamar Garden as reflections of the nation’s rich history.



The Chief Minister expressed hope that the visit would strengthen ties and foster mutual cooperation. She underscored Lahore’s blend of tradition and innovation and extended a warm welcome to the international visitors on behalf of the people of Lahore.



Lahore Walled City Authority Director General Kamran Lashari provided insights into the historical importance of the Royal Fort. The foreign guests showed interest in the archaeological remains, with Iraq’s defense attaché inviting Maryam Nawaz Sharif to visit Iraq. The event concluded with the presentation of a souvenir to the Chief Minister by the guests.
