Maryam Nawaz Sharif Calls for Global Action on Refugee Crisis

Lahore: Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif expressed strong support for refugees worldwide in a message delivered on World Refugee Day. She emphasized that being a refugee is not a personal choice but a harsh necessity forced by circumstances beyond one’s control.

“Being a refugee is not a crime, it is a cruel compulsion,” Ms. Sharif stated. She underscored the emotional toll of displacement, noting that while conflicts may end, the feelings of homelessness persist for generations.

Ms. Sharif highlighted the plight of refugees from Palestine and Syria, calling it a severe test for humanity. She urged the international community to acknowledge that those seeking asylum are oppressed, not weak.

She also praised Pakistan’s role in providing refuge. “Despite scarce resources, Pakistan has generously hosted millions of refugees,” she said, reaffirming the country’s commitment to supporting oppressed populations.

The Chief Minister expressed hope for a future where peace prevails and oppression is eradicated, ensuring solace and security for all individuals globally.
