Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz today unveiled the Wheat Initiative Program, a new scheme that aims to bolster wheat production in the region by providing one thousand tractors to wheat farmers in Punjab at no cost.
The Chief Minister conducted a digital draw for the “Gandam Agao” Prize Scheme, awarding the first tractor to Kausar Parveen, a female farmer from Bahawalnagar. In a personal call, Chief Minister Maryam congratulated Parveen on her win.
During a briefing, it was disclosed that 57,733 landowners with holdings exceeding 12.5 acres applied for the tractors under the “Gandam Agao” Campaign. Following a verification process, 21,496 farmers qualified for the lottery draw.
The initiative will distribute 55 horsepower tractors to the thousand successful lottery participants. The tractors are expected to be delivered to the winners within three months.
This year, wheat cultivation has spanned 560,000 acres across Punjab, marking a significant agricultural effort in the province.
