Gujjar Khan: The 78th martyrdom anniversary of Captain Muhammad Sarwar Shaheed, the first recipient of Pakistan’s highest military award, Nishan-e-Haider, is being observed today. Captain Sarwar, who was born in Singhori village, Gujjar Khan, on November 10, 1910, was commissioned into the Punjab Regiment in 1944. He embraced martyrdom on July 27, 1948, during the First Kashmir War at Tilpatra, Azad Kashmir, demonstrating leadership and tactical skill.

According to Radio Pakistan, the Chief of the Army Staff, Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf, Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, and the Armed Forces of Pakistan are commemorating Captain Sarwar’s sacrifice. They have paid tribute to his courage, commitment, and sacrifice for the nation. Captain Sarwar’s actions on the battlefield were instrumental in the fight for the freedom of Kashmir and continue to be remembered as a symbol of dedication to the nation’s defense.
