Karachi: The operational capacity of Karachi Port has seen marked improvements following the implementation of reforms by the Prime Minister’s Maritime Reforms Task Force. The measures have notably enhanced the customs system and efficiency at container terminals.
According to Radio Pakistan, significant strides have been made in improving port performance and expediting cargo clearance at Karachi Port Trust. The introduction of the Green Channel, faceless GD clearance, post-clearance audit, and customs reforms have streamlined the cargo clearance process.
The modernization efforts have also extended to key facilities such as Karachi International Container Terminal, South Asia Pakistan Terminals, and Qasim International Container Terminal. These enhancements are part of a broader initiative by the Ministry of Maritime Affairs, which has focused on digitalizing ports, implementing the Port Community System, and installing modern cargo scanners and electronic weighbridges.
