Many families awaiting justice since dissolution of IIOJK HR body: IFJHRJK

Srinagar, June 25, 2021 (PPI-OT):In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, International Forum for Justice Human Rights JK has said that it filed 41,003 petitions in the erstwhile so-called Human Rights Commission of the territory till July 2019. The IFJHRJK Chairman, Muhammad Ahsan Untoo, in a statement issued in Srinagar, today, said that of these petitions, 40,000 cases were compensated and many among the affected were given government jobs. He said that among the rest of 1003 petitions, 500 were disposed of because the families did not want to pursue the cases, while 503 others are still pending.

Untoo said that since the illegal annexation of Jammu and Kashmir in August 2019, the pending petitions have not been taken up and the families are eagerly waiting for justice. He said that the IIOJK administration, which is directly controlled by right wing Hindutva Narendra Modi government in New Delhi, has shut down the Human Rights Commission of the territory since October 31, 2019 without giving any reason.

Ahsan Untoo said after the dissolution of the commission and the transfer of their jurisdictions to the Indian commissions or administrative departments, accountability has taken a backseat as the process has become more cumbersome for the general public. Untoo said that the families who had pinned hope of getting justice from the system are left with no choice. He appealed to the International Court of Justice, Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch, to impress upon the Indian government to take up the pending cases and ensure justice is served to these families.
