Manmohan Singh Criticizes Narendra Modi’s Campaign Rhetoric

New Delhi, Former Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has openly criticized current Prime Minister Narendra Modi for what he describes as divisive and harmful rhetoric used during the Lok Sabha election campaign, and also lambasted the government’s Agniveer scheme.

According to Kashmir Media Service, in a letter to voters in Punjab released just ahead of the seventh phase of the Lok Sabha elections, Singh condemned the Modi-led government’s policies and public discourse. He claimed that Modi’s speeches during the campaign have debased the dignity of the Prime Minister’s office, describing them as “vicious” and “divisive.” Singh also attacked the BJP’s recent introduction of the Agniveer scheme in the armed forces, which he argued undermines the long-standing values of patriotism, bravery, and service by limiting service terms to four years.

The former prime minister refuted Modi’s accusations against him regarding resource allocation to Muslims, asserting that he has never favored any one community over another. Singh’s letter concluded with a call to voters to reject the narrative he associates with Modi and to elect a government that embodies democracy, constitutional integrity, and inclusivity.
