Majority of Married Pakistanis See Marital Fights as Shared Responsibility

Islamabad: A recent survey by Gallup and Gilani Pakistan reveals that a majority of married Pakistanis view marital disputes as a shared responsibility between husbands and wives. The survey indicates that 59% of married individuals attribute conflicts to both partners equally, suggesting a balanced approach to domestic issues.

The survey is part of Gallup Pakistan’s series on Marriage and Domestic Harmony, providing insights into perceptions of marital conflicts. In this particular study, married men and women across Pakistan were asked to identify who they believe is responsible for fights between spouses.

Findings show that 12% of respondents primarily blame the husband, while 6% point to the wife. A significant portion, 17%, expressed uncertainty, and 6% refrained from answering.

Conducted from September 12 to September 23, 2025, the survey involved 579 married individuals from both urban and rural regions across Pakistan’s four provinces. The results, with an error margin of ± 2-3 percent, were gathered through telephonic surveys using a computer-assisted telephone interviewing (CATI) system.

These findings underscore a societal tendency to view marital conflicts as a joint issue, rather than placing the burden on one spouse. Gallup and Gilani Pakistan continue to explore domestic harmony through this ongoing series, contributing to a deeper understanding of marital dynamics in the country.
