Major Traumatology Conference Highlights Importance of Trauma Centers and Global Collaboration

Karachi: In a significant acknowledgment of the critical role trauma centers play in healthcare, Mayor Karachi, Barrister Murtaza Wahab, emphasized the necessity of expanding trauma center facilities throughout Sindh. This statement was made during his address at the closing ceremony of the three-day second “Pak Trauma Con 2024 Conference,” which concluded here on Saturday. The event, drawing medical experts globally, focused on enhancing trauma care amid growing international cooperation.

According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, the conference was hosted by the Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Trauma Institute at a local hotel. It saw participation from notable figures such as Dr. Muhammad Sabir Memon, Executive Director of the Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Trauma Center; Professor Muhammad Saeed Qureshi, Patron-in-Chief; and international experts including Professor Cornel Daisy from Ireland and Dr. Mustafa Mahmood from the Royal College of Emergency in London.

Mayor Wahab highlighted the increased global participation in this year’s conference compared to previous years, with delegates from Austria, Ireland, England, and other nations. He expressed hope that the international delegates enjoyed their stay and the cultural offerings of Karachi.

Further, he outlined the efforts by the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) and the Sindh government to enhance health facilities and infrastructure within the city. Among the initiatives mentioned were improvements to KMC-managed hospitals and the upcoming operational status of mortuaries at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital and Landhi Medical Complex. Additionally, a significant budget has been allocated for road construction and repairs to facilitate better transportation and accessibility.

The conference theme, “Integrated Trauma Care: From Challenges to Advancement,” captured the essence of the discussions aimed at addressing challenges and modernizing trauma care systems. The event served as a platform for sharing advancements in trauma management, with sessions covering a wide range of topics from trauma laws to disaster management.

Dr. Muhammad Sabir Memon, in his role as Secretary of the organizing committee, stated that Pak Trauma Con represents a pivotal educational and networking event for the trauma community, featuring high-quality scientific sessions and presentations from national and international experts.

The closing remarks reiterated the importance of integrated trauma care and the benefits of international expertise in enhancing local trauma management practices, particularly in resource-limited settings.
