The Indian Home Ministry has officially approved the renaming of Maharashtra’s Ahmednagar district to Ahilyanagar, as confirmed by State Revenue Minister Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil. According to Kashmir Media Service, Vikhe Patil announced that the decision was made by the state cabinet in March, attributing the new name to the historical significance of Ahilyabai Holkar, an 18th-century ruler from Indore who was originally from the district. This renaming follows the recent changes by the Eknath Shinde government, which renamed Aurangabad to Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Osmanabad to Dharashiv, reflecting a broader trend of renaming places to honor local historical figures and cultural heritage.
