Maharashtra Legislative Council to Lack Muslim Representation

Mumbai: In an unprecedented occurrence, the Maharashtra Legislative Council will not include any Muslim representatives for the first time since its inception 87 years ago.

According to Kashmir Media Service, this development follows the expiration of the terms of the two current Muslim councillors, alongside the absence of any Muslim candidates in the upcoming election cycle. The situation has ignited concerns within Muslim communities and among their leaders, who have called for guaranteed representation in future electoral processes.

The lack of Muslim representatives in the council is prompting fears of political marginalization, potentially driving the community towards parties like the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) and contributing to greater political polarization within the state.
