Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh minister Kunwar Vijay Shah faces backlash after making a controversial statement about Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, a senior officer in the Indian Army. The comment, perceived as derogatory, has prompted the Congress party to demand his resignation.
During a public event in Raikunda village, Shah likened Colonel Qureshi to a “sister” of the individuals responsible for the Pahalgam attack, according to Kashmir Media Service. The remark was made in connection to “Operation Sindoor” and was met with reactions from the audience.
The Congress party labeled the comment as “highly objectionable” and called for Shah’s resignation. Madhya Pradesh Congress President Jitu Patwari condemned the minister’s remarks, accusing him of using communal and gender-based narratives for political gain.
Patwari shared a video of the speech on social media, stating that such rhetoric disrespects a decorated army officer and fosters social divisions. He urged the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to act swiftly and clarify its position on the matter.
The Congress argued that Shah’s remarks, which framed military decisions in a communal and gender-based context, could heighten tensions and called for immediate action against the minister.
