KARACHI: The teams from Lyari Town, Baldia Town, and Malir Town have advanced to the semi-finals of the Metropolitan Football Cup 2024 following victories in three quarter-final matches held on Monday. This tournament is organized by the Culture and Sports Department of Baldia Uzma Karachi. The competition, which features local football talent, saw intense matches as teams vied for a place in the semi-finals.
According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, the MC team had already secured its semi-final spot by defeating Maripur Town. In the subsequent quarter-finals, Shah Faisal Town claimed victory over Baldia Town with a score of 4-3 at the KMC Football Stadium. Lyari Town showcased a dominant performance against Gulshan Town, winning 5-0 at the Kukri Football Ground in Lyari. Meanwhile, Malir Town edged out Gadap Town with a 2-1 win in the fourth quarter-final at the All Brothers Football Stadium in Malir.
The semi-finals and final of the tournament are scheduled to be held under floodlights. The first semi-final will take place on Wednesday, December 4, at Kukri Ground, featuring Lyari Town against Baldia Town. The second semi-final, between KMC and Malir Town, is set for Thursday, December 5, at All Brothers Football Stadium in Malir. The final match will be held on December 7 at the Kukri Ground in Lyari.
Organizers have announced substantial cash prizes, with Rs 10 lakh awarded to the winner, Rs 5 lakh to the runner-up, and Rs 2.5 lakh to the team securing third place. To ensure the tournament meets high standards, the services of referees and technical staff have been enlisted, along with consultations from former footballers and experts. This inaugural Metropolitan Cup aims to deliver an engaging football experience for fans across the city.
