Lucknow: A delivery worker for Zomato was assaulted in the Gomti Nagar area, escalating tensions surrounding religious identities in Uttar Pradesh.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Mohammad Aslam, the worker, experienced violence following a delayed delivery during the Raksha Bandhan festival. Targeted due to his Muslim identity, he was physically attacked by four individuals after they learned his religion through the Zomato app. The assailants beat him and subjected him to further humiliation by dousing him with alcohol and restraining him. Aslam managed to escape and reported the assault at the Gomti Nagar police station where Inspector Rajesh Kumar Tripathi confirmed that an investigation was underway.
This incident is part of a larger disturbing trend where delivery workers are targeted based on their names or religious affiliations. The increasing number of such incidents calls for urgent measures to protect workers from religiously motivated violence and discrimination in the workplace.
