Loralai: A bi-annual task force meeting for the anti-polio campaign was held under the leadership of Commissioner Loralai Division, Saadat Hasan, focusing on intensifying efforts to prevent the spread of polio amidst reports of new cases in Pakistan. The meeting, which included key health and security officials, addressed challenges and strategies to improve vaccination reach in the region.
According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Balochistan, Dr. Mohammad Ayaz from the World Health Organization outlined the current status of polio within the country, noting that 16 cases had been identified this year, including in nearby districts. While Loralai has remained free of new cases, vigilance remains high with ongoing testing and monitoring. Concerns were raised about the lack of female staff and logistical challenges hindering past campaign efforts.
Commissioner Hasan emphasized the critical role of female staff in the success of vaccination drives and mandated increased recruitment. He also underscored the necessity of security for health teams, with District Police Officer Mohammad Zafar disclosing that 213 police officers are currently assigned to protect polio workers in Loralai. The meeting concluded with resolutions to address transportation issues, enhance staff presence, and enforce participation in vaccination efforts, especially among government employees’ families.
