London, At the “Kashmir Unity Conference” convened under the auspices of the British Parliament, leading voices, including politicians and activists, have issued a strong call for international intervention, notably by the United Nations, to facilitate a resolution to the longstanding Kashmir dispute.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the event was chaired by Debbie Abraham, Chairperson of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Kashmir, and featured prominent attendees such as Pakistan’s High Commissioner to the UK, Dr. Mohammad Faisal. The conference drew over thirty members and staff from the British Parliament, who collectively voiced their solidarity with the Kashmiri people, currently facing oppression.
Participants of the conference sharply criticized the continued illegal detention of prominent Kashmiri leaders, including Masarrat Alam Butt, Shabir Ahmed Shah, Mohammad Yasin Malik, and Asiya Andrabi, calling for their immediate release by India. They underscored the importance of the United Nations’ acknowledgment of Kashmiris’ right to self-determination, urging that this right be honored to allow Kashmiris to decide their political future independently.
Dr. Mohammad Faisal reaffirmed Pakistan’s steadfast support for the Kashmiri struggle for self-determination, highlighting the nation’s commitment to providing political, moral, and diplomatic support. Debbie Abraham emphasized her group’s efforts to keep the Kashmir issue at the forefront of discussions within the British Parliament, advocating for the recognition of Kashmiris’ rights as per United Nations resolutions.
Raja Najabat Hussain, Chairman of the Jammu and Kashmir Self-Determination Movement International, expressed appreciation for the solidarity shown by British parliamentarians and other attendees. He vowed that his organization would continue to fight until the Kashmiris are allowed to exercise their right to self-determination without external pressure.
The conference saw participation from several British Parliament members, including Sarah Owen, Lord Waheed Khan, Khalid Mahmood, and others, demonstrating the international concern over the situation in Kashmir and the collective call for a peaceful resolution in line with international norms and Kashmiris’ aspirations.
