London: The High Commission for Pakistan in London recently hosted a ceremony to honor Defence and Martyrs Day, drawing notable guests such as Parliamentarians, Diplomats, and Defence Attaches from 51 countries. The event celebrated the sacrifices of Pakistan’s military and reaffirmed the nation’s resolve to support the Kashmiri people amidst ongoing human rights challenges.
According to Press Information Department, the High Commissioner of Pakistan to the UK, Dr Mohammad Faisal, underscored the importance of the day, urging every Pakistani to renew their commitment to loyalty and service to the nation. He paid tribute to the martyrs, recognizing their sacrifices as a source of strength and resilience for Pakistan, especially in challenging times. Dr. Faisal also highlighted the professionalism of Pakistani forces in UN Peacekeeping missions and their role in upholding peace internationally.
The ceremony also included personal stories and tributes from families of martyrs, who were honored as special guests. These families shared memories and expressed gratitude towards the support provided by the Pakistan Army. Notable speakers included Ahmad Nawaz, a survivor of the Army Public School Peshawar attack, who spoke about the national support that contributed to his academic achievements, and Amir Khan, a former World Boxing Champion, who discussed his honorary rank in the Pakistan Army and his efforts in sports and philanthropy.
Military advisors provided insights into the operational history and ongoing readiness of Pakistan’s armed forces. Commodore Muhammad Zeeshan Nabi assured the audience of the robust defense capabilities of Pakistan, while Army and Air Adviser Colonel Taimur Rahat elaborated on the historical and recent challenges faced by the military, emphasizing the importance of unity, faith, and discipline among the forces.
The event concluded with a live music performance, featuring patriotic songs that resonated with the audience, and the presentation of souvenirs to the families of the martyrs by various diplomats who acknowledged the dedication of Pakistan’s armed forces.
