Living Indus Initiative Gains Recognition as a UN World Restoration Flagship Programme

Islamabad, The Living Indus Initiative, a project launched by the Government of Pakistan with the ambitious goal of restoring 30 percent of the River Indus ecosystem by 2030, has been recognized as one of the seven United Nations World Restoration Flagships. This prestigious accolade highlights the initiative’s critical role in the global effort to rejuvenate and protect one of the most significant river basins in the world.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the Living Indus Initiative is part of a broader commitment by Pakistan to address the rapid degradation facing the Indus Basin. The project’s inclusion in the UN’s flagship programs underscores the international community’s support for Pakistan’s efforts to safeguard and restore the ecological balance of the Indus River.

The World Restoration Flagship awards are a key component of the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration, which seeks to prevent, halt, and reverse the degradation of ecosystems worldwide.
