Islamabad, October 26, 2021 (PPI-OT):The letter of Understanding signing ceremony between Directorate General of Special Education, Ministry of Human Rights and Private Education Institutions Registration Authority (PEIRA), held at Ministry of Education. The ceremony was witnessed by the Federal Minister for Human Rights Dr. Shireen Mazari and Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training Shafqat Mahmood. While addressing the participants, Federal Minister for Human Rights Dr. Shireen Mazari said it will help to mainstream the differently abled children with mild symptoms in education and employment sector.
She further said that it is very important for differently abled children to attain education in normal schools which will help them to grow in the society. On this occasion, Federal Education Minister Shafqat Mahmood said, this initiative would provide a great relief to the poor parents who were otherwise unable to get their children with mild or moderate disabilities to the doctors for check-up and medical treatment.
There are approximately 35000 children and persons with disabilities in Islamabad. The need was being felt to provide opportunity of inclusive Education to the children with Disabilities having mild to moderate disabilities in public and private schools.
Therefore, Directorate General of Special Education has initiated a “Pilot Project on Inclusive Education for Differently Abled Persons in public and private schools at Islamabad Capital Territory. The project is planned to be operated in collaboration with Federal Directorate of Education, Islamabad, Metropolitan and Private Educational Institutions Regulatory Authority (PIERA) to introduce the system of right based inclusion for differently abled persons for their mainstreaming in normal schools of fifty Union Councils.
Initially this pilot project is being implemented in all schools of Federal Directorate of Education and PIERA at ICT level targeting mild to moderate differently abled persons. Heads/Teachers of these schools will be provided training on inclusive Education.
Consultative workshops and seminars will be arranged. Almost 5000 differently abled children will be registered/enrolled and 250 teachers of regular schools under the Federal Directorate of Education at ICT level training will be provided training. 10,000 parents will be given counselling and guidance. The main objectives of the project are to attain the goal of mainstreaming the differently abled children in public and private schools. Other objectives include to create awareness and educate local community, provide educational facilities to the children with disabilities.
