Leh: The Leh Apex Body (LAB) has declared its intention to conduct a foot march from Leh to New Delhi next month to compel the Indian government to reengage in discussions concerning Ladakh’s autonomy and rights, based on a four-point agenda.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the LAB, along with the Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA), has been actively protesting for the past four years, advocating for statehood for Ladakh, the extension of constitutional protections, the establishment of a local public service commission, and separate parliamentary representation for the Leh and Kargil districts. These groups represent a coalition of political, social, and religious organizations within the region.
The previous negotiations between Ladakh’s representatives and the central government concluded in March, having failed to yield any significant progress.
LAB co-chairman Chering Dorjey Lakruk announced that the march, intended to be peaceful, is scheduled to commence on September 1 with at least 100 volunteers, including notable climate activist Sonam Wangchuk. The journey is set to conclude in Delhi by October 2. However, adjustments to the start date may occur if volunteer participation does not meet expectations, though the march will proceed regardless of these changes.
