Leh: Leaders from the Leh Apex Body (LAB) and Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA) convened in Leh to press for statehood and enhanced political rights under the 6th Schedule, threatening a prolonged agitation if their demands are ignored.
According to Kashmir Media Service, since the revocation of Article 370 in 2019, the LAB and KDA, coalitions of various political, social, and religious groups in Ladakh, have actively campaigned for a four-point agenda aimed at securing greater autonomy and recognition for the region. The leaders have now intensified their warnings, indicating readiness to escalate their protests if the New Delhi government fails to engage constructively.
In their meeting, the leaders planned further strategies, with a follow-up session scheduled to refine their course of action. Haji Hanifa Jan, a Member of Parliament representing Ladakh, voiced his commitment to advocate for Ladakh’s interests both within and outside the legislative bodies.
While preferring negotiation, the leaders expressed their preparedness to adopt more confrontational methods of protest should the Modi administration continue its current stance of non-engagement.
