Islamabad: In a move to address public concerns over the potential increase in electricity tariffs, Minister for Power Awais Leghari today refuted claims that rates are being systematically raised, providing a breakdown of the tariff determination process.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, during a televised address, Leghari explained that the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) conducts the Quarterly Tariff Adjustment (QTA) every three months and the Fuel Price Adjustment monthly. He highlighted recent deliberations by NEPRA, noting that while there might be an increase of ninety-six paisa per unit in the QTA, there will be a significant decrease of 2.87 rupees per unit in the Fuel Price Adjustment.
Leghari further detailed that when tax impacts are considered, consumers will actually see a net relief of 2.37 rupees per unit, contrary to the fears of increased financial burden due to rising power costs.
