Leghari Champions Initiatives to Tackle Hill Torrents in Dera Ghazi Khan and Rajanpur


Islamabad, In a concerted effort to address the challenges posed by hill torrents in Dera Ghazi Khan and Rajanpur, Federal Minister for Power Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari convened a meeting with representatives from the Federal Flood Commission and Punjab Irrigation Department. The discussions focused on formulating and fast-tracking projects designed to reduce the adverse impacts of hill torrents, which have been intensified by climate change phenomena.



According to Press Information Department, Minister Leghari underscored the imperative of initiating comprehensive measures to protect lives and properties from the destructive force of hill torrents in the affected regions. He instructed the relevant officials to hasten the approval and execution process of projects that are deemed viable for effectively countering the hill torrent menace and alleviating resultant damages.



Moreover, the Minister pointed out the critical role of the Green Climate Fund in expediting these essential projects. Accessing such financial resources would significantly contribute to the timely implementation of interventions aimed at combating the hill torrent issue. Minister Leghari’s directives reflect a proactive approach to environmental challenges, prioritizing the safety and economic stability of the communities in Dera Ghazi Khan and Rajanpur by leveraging both national and international support mechanisms.
