LBOD Rehabilitation Enhances Flood Management in Sindh

Karachi: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has announced the completion of crucial infrastructural developments under the Left Bank Outfall Drain (LBOD) project, aimed at restoring natural waterways and enhancing flood management across several districts. The construction of the RD LBOD siphons at 210 and the Spinal scape regulator were highlighted during a review meeting at the Chief Minister’s House, which included top regional irrigation and government officials.

According to Chief Minister Sindh, the restoration of the old water channels will protect agricultural lands in Badin, Mirpurkhas, Sanghar, and Nawabshah. Irrigation Minister Jam Khan Shoro detailed that the newly constructed siphons would divert excess water during heavy rains, reducing flood risks. The system was tested during the 2022 monsoons, where it successfully managed water levels, indicating a significant improvement in regional water management.

The discussion also touched on the technical aspects of the LBOD system’s enhancements, such as the increased capacity of the spinal drain, which now handles significantly more water flow compared to previous years. The Chief Minister emphasized the ongoing efforts to stabilize and enhance the overall drainage infrastructure, which is crucial for mitigating the impacts of monsoonal rains and ensuring the safety of the populous regions.
