Islamabad: Minister for Law and Justice, Azam Nazeer Tarar, has called for national unity against the unauthorized issuance of religious decrees, specifically condemning recent fatwas targeted at public figures such as Supreme Court Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa. During a ceremony in Islamabad, Tarar emphasized the government’s commitment to enforce the law rigorously against such acts.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Tarar highlighted the case of a fatwa issued against Justice Isa, describing it as illegal and an act of creating a “state within the state.” He confirmed that legal actions are underway, with arrests expected soon. The minister reiterated the state’s stance of zero tolerance towards hate acts masquerading as expressions of human rights and freedom of speech.
Tarar assured that any breach of law under the guise of religious authority would face the full might of the state. He defended Justice Isa as an honorable judge whose rulings align with both national law and Shari’ah, underscoring his integrity and legal acumen.
