Islamabad: Minister for Law and Justice Azam Nazeer Tarar has declared judicial reforms as the foremost agenda of the current government, emphasizing the active efforts to implement significant changes over the past five months.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, speaking in the National Assembly today, Minister Tarar highlighted the government’s dedication to this cause by presenting eight significant bills. These proposals include several amendments to the constitution, such as Article 184, which deals with the jurisdiction of the Supreme Court, and other modifications aimed at optimizing legislative processes in Articles 51, 59, 106, 177, 193, 198, and 208. Additional bills discussed were the Criminal Laws Amendment Bill, 2024, the Contempt of Court (Repeal) Bill, 2024, the Civil Servants Amendment Bill, 2024, and the Allocation of Special Seats for Deserving Persons in Universities Bill, 2024.
The chair of the National Assembly has referred all these bills to the relevant standing committees for further deliberation.
In parallel, the National Assembly also passed a resolution today, led by Ms. Aliya Kamran, urging the government to provide state-of-the-art medical facilities in the federal capital’s hospitals and to ensure high-quality healthcare for all patients.
Furthermore, responding to a calling attention notice, Minister for Water Resources Musadik Malik outlined the Green Pakistan Initiative’s plans. This includes strategies to convert barren land for agricultural use and increase per acre crop yields, with Punjab and Sindh provinces already identifying lands for this scheme. The assembly session has been adjourned and is scheduled to reconvene tomorrow at eleven am.
