Landslides Close Srinagar-Jammu Highway, Stranding Over 200 Vehicles

Srinagar, 17 Oct 2023:The Jammu-Srinagar highway, a primary connector between Kashmir and the rest of the world, was temporarily closed on Tuesday due to landslides caused by continuous rains in the Ramban district.

Kashmir Media Service reports that persistent snowfall in the higher elevations of the valley and rainfall in the Jammu plains have intensified cold wave conditions throughout the region. As a result, landslides at specific sites, such as Dalwas, Mehad in the Cafeteria Morh area, and shooting stones in the Trishul morh area of Ramban district, have blocked the highway, leaving over 200 vehicles stranded. This information was sourced from the Kashmir Media Service.

Adding to the transportation woes, the Mughal road, which serves as a connector between Shopian in Kashmir Valley and Poonch, also remained closed due to snowfall. The weather department forecasts the continuation of light rain and snow in certain areas, prompting officials to advise the public to steer clear of areas susceptible to landslides and flooded drains.
