Landslide in Mansehra Causes House Collapses, No Human Casualties Reported

Mansehra: On August 18, 2024, a significant landslide triggered by heavy rainfall led to the collapse of several houses in the Lassan Dhanoo area near the Kunhar River in Mansehra district. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has confirmed that while multiple homes have been damaged, fortunately, no human casualties have been reported.

According to Provincial Disaster Management Authority, the affected houses belong to Muhammad Liaqat, Muhammad Riaz, Rafaqat, Sajid, and Siad, all sons of Barkatullah. In addition to the damaged homes, a cattle shed was washed away by the landslide, putting additional homes at risk of further damage.

In response, teams from the Irrigation Department, Kaghan Development Authority (KDA), National Highway Authority (NHA), and local police are actively coordinating onsite efforts. A local committee has been formed to integrate the affected residents into the early warning system and to facilitate early evacuation. The committee is also overseeing the deployment of machinery to mitigate further risks and ensure the safety of the community.
