Lahore’s Nurseries Set for Modernization Under New Horticulture Initiative

Lahore: The Horticulture Agency Lahore has resolved to modernize the city’s nurseries with the aim of increasing plant and tree production and enhancing nursery management and administrative operations. A meeting chaired by the Managing Director of the agency, Ahmad Usman Javed, focused on reviewing the various aspects necessary for upgrading the nurseries to meet modern standards.

According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Punjab, the Managing Director instructed relevant officials to prepare and submit a detailed plan for the nursery upgrades within three days. The meeting resolved to link nursery projects with annual performance contracts, assign Grade-17 officers to nurseries, and improve administrative facilities.

Key attendees included Additional Managing Directors Rao Tasleem Akhtar and Zona Waheed Butt, as well as officials from the Nurseries Project, Director Engineering, and Horticulture Authority Punjab. Ahmad Usman Javed emphasized the transformation of major nurseries into state-of-the-art facilities to boost the production of indigenous trees, seasonal flowers, and a variety of plants. This initiative is designed to align plant availability with the city’s needs and enhance plantation efforts.

In addition, Javed directed that annual performance targets be established for Nursery Project Directors and stressed the importance of maintaining accurate records of plant production and costs for effective monitoring. Essential facilities, including boundary walls, are to be installed to address security and administrative requirements. The production of plants and trees in the agency’s nurseries is expected to reduce dependency on external procurement sources.

Javed expressed that the updated nurseries would significantly contribute to plantation efforts, expand Lahore’s green spaces, and serve as models for other cities in Punjab.
