Islamabad: In a move to intertwine sports and climate advocacy, Romina Khurshid Alam, Coordinator to the Prime Minister on Climate Change, has urged the Lahore Qalandars to use the upcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL) season as a platform to promote climate awareness. The initiative aims to leverage the PSL’s wide visibility to draw attention to the urgent need for climate action.
According to a statement by Press Information Department, Ms. Alam, during a meeting with Lahore Qalandars CEO Rana Atif, underscored the role of the team in engaging the youth on climate challenges. She highlighted the importance of using influential platforms like Lahore Qalandars to foster public awareness about the climate crisis. The collaboration is expected to reach a broad audience, particularly the younger generation, through strategic use of the team’s social media channels.
The Lahore Qalandars, known for their significant fan base, plan to employ their platform to educate and inspire on climate-related issues. The team will disseminate content such as videos, infographics, and messages from players to promote sustainable practices. Ms. Alam emphasized sports’ potential in uniting people and driving environmental change, suggesting activities like school visits and climate-themed events to engage fans directly.
CEO Rana Atif expressed enthusiasm for the initiative, noting the powerful role sports can play in inspiring change.
