Lahore, Following directives from the Chief Minister of Punjab, Lahore Police have escalated efforts to curb kite flying throughout the city, leading to a significant number of arrests and seizures this month. The crackdown has resulted in 1285 cases being registered and 1330 individuals apprehended for their involvement in kite flying activities.
According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Punjab, the spokesperson for Lahore Police revealed that the arrests include 1223 kite-flyers, 95 kite-sellers, and 12 kite-makers. The police have also confiscated over 19,700 kites and 1116 kite flying spools from the accused. Arrests were made across various divisions of the city, including 308 in City Division, 296 in Cantt, 108 in Civil Lines, 214 in Sadar, 157 in Iqbal Town, and 247 in Model Town.
Capital City Police Officer Bilal Siddique Kamiana emphasized that the dangerous practice of kite flying would not be tolerated under any circumstances, citing the grave risks associated with this activity. The police are enforcing the Kite Flying Act with strict measures against those engaged in the manufacture, sale, and use of kites and lethal kite strings. The CCPO has called for breaking the supply chains of kite making and the use of modern technology to apprehend those involved in the online kite flying trade.
Furthermore, the CCPO urged parents to prevent their children from participating in kite flying, labeling it as a deadly sport. The Lahore Police’s determined efforts aim to eliminate the perilous tradition of kite flying to ensure public safety.
