Lahore: Lahore police have arrested 10,723 suspects and registered an equal number of cases during a concerted effort to combat illegal weapons in 2024. Confiscated items included 148 Kalashnikovs, 620 rifles, 376 shotguns, and 9,487 pistols.
According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Punjab, CCPO Bilal Siddique Kamyana stated that the police conducted focused raids to recover illegal weapons from offenders. He emphasized the adoption of a zero-tolerance policy against illegal weapons, the display of firearms, and aerial firing.
Kamyana directed the police force to ensure strict monitoring of habitual offenders involved in illegal weapons possession and sales. He also ordered action against individuals who instill fear through the display of illegal arms.
Additionally, operations against unlicensed weapon holders, fake arms dealers, and unauthorized firearm repairers are to continue without any discrimination. The CCPO reiterated the commitment to persist in the crackdown on arms smuggling and illegal weapons trade, highlighting the Lahore Police’s vigilance in crime prevention efforts.
