Peshawar, In an effort to streamline the tax system and boost local revenue, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Finance Advisor, Muzamil Aslam, announced a series of fiscal reforms at a consultation meeting of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Revenue Authority (KPRA). The reforms include imposing a fixed tax on wedding halls and restaurants, enhancing registration and compliance, and specifically supporting women’s businesses through tax reductions and dedicated services.
According to Directorate General Information and PRs – Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the meeting brought together representatives from the Chamber of Commerce, legal and tax professionals, and government officials to discuss the CAPRA Sales Tax in Services Act 2022 and its implementing rules and regulations. Aslam outlined plans to significantly increase the province’s tax revenue, emphasizing the low tax collection relative to the population and the dependence on federal government funding for the majority of the province’s expenses. The initiative includes addressing the high property tax rate, which currently stands at 23%, with a small portion remaining within the province. The meeting highlighted the importance of consultation and collaboration with stakeholders to achieve these objectives and praised the efforts of the KPRA in organizing the event.
