Peshawar: A two-day orientation session on gender-based violence (GBV) was recently held for the fifth batch of court staff, focusing on key concepts, types of GBV, and survivor-centric legal practices. Organized by the KP Judicial Academy in collaboration with UNDP, the event drew participants from Bajaur, Chitral, and Kurram districts. The session aimed to enhance the court staff’s understanding and handling of GBV cases.
According to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Judicial Academy – Peshawar, the inaugural ceremony was led by Mr. Jehanzeb Shinwari, Director General of KPJA, who welcomed the participants and outlined the objectives of the orientation. The event featured various speakers, including Ms. Salma Zeb from UNDP, Mr. Arshad Ali, a civil judge from Malakand, and Ms. Zeba Rasheed, a district and sessions judge from Kohat. They covered a range of topics from GBV concepts to the challenges survivors face in accessing justice.
The sessions also delved into international and national best practices, including survivor-centric court processes and legal aid. The second day began with reflections on the previous day’s discussions, followed by role-playing exercises aimed at improving the handling of GBV cases. The orientation concluded with a ceremony presided over by Mr. Shinwari, where participants received certificates.
