KP Assembly Unanimously Passes Resolutions in Solidarity with Kashmir

Peshawar: On Monday, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly passed three resolutions and conducted a solidarity walk to support the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), with Speaker Babar Salim Swati presiding over the session.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the resolutions, moved by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) MPA Jalal Khan, Sher Ali Afridi, and Abdus Salam Afridi of the PTI, emphasized the long-standing issue of Kashmir since its occupation by India in 1948. The assembly declared its unwavering support for the Kashmiri struggle for self-determination and liberty, condemning the ongoing military siege and human rights violations by Indian forces.

The session also marked the observation of a Black Day, recognizing the continuous struggle of the Kashmiri people against Indian oppression. Speakers at the session highlighted Kashmir’s significance to Pakistan, referencing historical treaties and the unresolved nature of the dispute in international forums.

The assembly called on the provincial government to urge the Federal Government to actively support the Kashmiri liberation struggle both ethically and diplomatically at all relevant forums. Speaker Swati opened the session by affirming the assembly’s commitment to the Kashmiri cause and led a one-minute silence in honor of Kashmiri martyrs.

During the discussions, ANP’s parliamentary leader Arbab Usman criticized the international community’s silence on the issue, particularly the Muslim world, and stressed the need for stronger diplomatic actions, including engagements with China and other allies, to resolve the Kashmir dispute effectively. JUI-F member Rehana Ismail called for the Muslim Ummah to unite and support the Kashmiri struggle, especially in light of the revocation of Kashmir’s special status by India on August 5, 2019.

The session concluded with a walk led by Speaker Swati and other assembly members to symbolize their solidarity with the Kashmiri people. Swati criticized Indian policies and reiterated the assembly’s commitment to supporting the Kashmiri cause until a resolution is achieved.

The KP Assembly session underscored a strong regional support within Pakistan for the Kashmiri people’s rights and freedom, highlighting the ongoing geopolitical tensions in South Asia.
