KMC Moves to Alleviate Traffic Woes with New Road Project

KARACHI: The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has announced plans to construct an alternative road to address the ongoing traffic and maintenance issues associated with the Natha Khan Bridge.

The bridge has been plagued by structural problems and recurring incidents of iron theft, leading to frequent repairs and significant disruptions for local commuters. In response, Mayor Karachi, Barrister Murtaza Wahab, has instructed the KMC Engineering Department to develop an alternative route to ensure smoother traffic flow and provide a long-term solution for residents.

The decision was finalized during a meeting chaired by the Mayor, with Municipal Commissioner S. M. Afzal Zaidi and senior Engineering Department officials in attendance. The Mayor underscored the importance of a permanent solution over temporary measures to alleviate the commuter challenges faced by the public.

Teams have been directed to complete a detailed survey within a week, with construction to begin immediately following the survey’s completion. Efforts for survey and route planning are already underway.

Mayor Wahab emphasized the city’s responsibility to address public concerns and resolve civic issues promptly. He highlighted the importance of the Natha Khan corridor as a vital connection between the city, the airport, and major motorways, stressing the need for the project to proceed on an expedited timeline.

The KMC has reaffirmed its dedication to enhancing urban infrastructure and ensuring safe, efficient commuting options for Karachi’s residents.
