Karachi: The KMC Metropolitan Cup Football Tournament 2024, organized by the Department of Culture and Sports, Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, featured several noteworthy matches, showcasing competitive spirit and remarkable performances. In one of the tournament’s highlights, Mororo Town triumphed over Mominabad Town with a 6-4 victory at Madhu Ground, with Shahzaib scoring a hat-trick for the winning team.
According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, the tournament, which commenced on November 10, has seen strong performances from various teams. At the KMC Football Stadium, Maripur Town secured a 4-0 win against North Karachi Town, with goals by Asif, Shokat, Dilshad, and Asif Senior. The match also saw disciplinary actions, with Maripur Town’s Usman and M Ali receiving yellow cards, while North Karachi Town’s Shaharyar was shown a red card in the 75th minute.
In another match at the Mohammadi Stadium in Memon Goth, Lyari Town defeated Chanaisar Town 5-3, even as Chanaisar Town’s Noman scored a hat-trick. Lyari Town’s goals came from Maqbool, who netted twice, and Nabi Bakhsh, Mohammad Jan, and Aqib, each scoring once. The match was notable for Chanaisar Town’s Ins Abbas receiving two yellow cards.
The tournament has also highlighted individual achievements, with Farqan Umar from Gadap Town leading as the top scorer with seven goals. Yasser Rehman from Korangi Town follows with five goals, while Gadap Town’s Mazamil has scored four.
A total of 24 teams, including 23 from town administrations and one from KMC, are competing for the tournament’s top honor, which includes a trophy and a cash prize of 1 million rupees for the winner. Matches are being held across seven districts in Karachi, with semifinals and the final set to take place under floodlights. The event is supervised by FIFA-approved referees and technical staff, ensuring high standards, with all teams provided with kits for the tournament.
