Karachi: In an effort to enhance recreational facilities and prioritize animal welfare, the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation has commenced a comprehensive modernization plan for Karachi Zoo, Safari Park, and Landhi Korangi Zoo with a projected cost of Rs. 160 million. The initiative aims to align the city’s zoological and recreational facilities with international standards.

According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, the project was launched under the directives of Mayor Karachi, Barrister Murtaza Wahab, who has instructed relevant departments to transform these spaces into modern, environmentally sustainable, and family-friendly areas. The development plan includes multiple simultaneous projects such as the upgrade of Karachi Zoo and Safari Park, improvement of facilities at Landhi Korangi Zoo, conversion to solar energy, and enhancements to the boating zone at Safari Park.

During a meeting with senior KMC officials and zoo administration, Mayor Wahab highlighted the importance of creating safe and educational environments in the city’s zoos and parks. He emphasized the need for sustainable development and modern management practices to restore the historic and recreational significance of these facilities.

Mayor Wahab stated that the initiative not only aims to improve recreational spaces for the residents of Karachi but also focuses on better living conditions and welfare standards for the animals. He noted that the installation of solar energy systems at Landhi Korangi Zoo is a testament to KMC’s commitment to environmentally friendly solutions.

The Mayor has instructed engineering and parks departments to ensure the timely completion of all projects while maintaining high standards throughout the process. The revamp is expected to boost public engagement, tourism, educational visits, and family recreation opportunities in Karachi.

Officials reported that the upgraded boating zone at Safari Park will feature improved infrastructure and safety measures to attract more visitors. Similarly, developments at Karachi Zoo and Landhi Korangi Zoo will enhance animal habitats, cleanliness, landscaping, lighting, pathways, and visitor comfort.
