Khyber Teaching Hospital Convenes Emergency Meeting to Tackle New Corona Variant and Seasonal Diseases

Peshawar, In response to the rising concerns over the new variant of Coronavirus and other seasonal diseases, Khyber Teaching Hospital held an emergency meeting of its Infection Control Committee. The meeting, chaired by Medical Director Professor Dr. Muhammad Ayaz Khan, focused on strategizing and strengthening the hospital’s response to these health challenges.

According to Directorate General Information and PRs – Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the meeting included key figures like the Chairman of the Infection Control Committee, Prof. Dr. Hashimuddin Azam Khan, Chairman of the Medicine Department, Dr. Owais Naeem, Nursing Director Ismat Pasha, and other relevant officers. Prof. Dr. Hashimuddin briefed the attendees about the new variant of Corona, known as JN1, and the surge in other seasonal diseases.

The committee recognized the pivotal role played by the Khyber Teaching Hospital during the peak of the Coronavirus pandemic, acknowledging the unparalleled sacrifices of the staff. The meeting saw discussions on the restoration of the Corona ward, with a recommendation to use the old isolation and emergency buildings for this purpose. This would ensure 24-hour services with all necessary facilities.

Dr. Muhammad Ayaz Khan, in his address, lauded the efforts of the senior doctors and staff of Khyber Teaching Hospital in handling past epidemics and emergency situations. He emphasized the importance of quick and effective action in light of the new Corona variant and other respiratory diseases. Instructions were issued to set up a separate ward and laboratory for Corona patients, along with accelerating the process of liaising with the Directorate General of Health for vaccination programs.

The meeting underlines the hospital’s proactive approach in dealing with the ongoing health crisis and its commitment to providing quality healthcare services to combat the spread of the new Corona variant and other seasonal diseases.
