Peshawar, Shakeel Ahmed, Minister of Communications and Construction in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has emphasized the necessity of completing development projects both on time and to a high standard, warning against any compromise on these aspects. He highlighted the negative impact of delays and subpar work, both on public service delivery and financial expenditure.
According to Directorate General Information and PRs – Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, during a briefing meeting in Peshawar, Minister Ahmed reviewed the ongoing projects within the Center Region of the Department of Communications and Construction. He addressed the urgency of expediting work to prevent inflated costs and unnecessary burdens on the provincial budget and populace.
The meeting included discussions on the progress of various development initiatives, financial concerns, and strategies to improve project execution. Ahmed called for enhanced efficiency within the department, including the establishment of a dedicated staff for laboratory testing to ensure the authenticity and compliance of construction materials and work.
To enforce accountability and maintain standards, Ahmed insisted on thorough vetting of contractors and immediate commencement of work following tender awards. Additionally, he touched on coordinating with the Board of Revenue for accurate market rate assessments for projects and underscored the importance of on-site supervision by the technical staff.
The Minister also addressed administrative measures, such as transparent recruitment to alleviate staff shortages and advocating for prompt promotions and performance-based incentives for the department’s employees, aiming to boost motivation and dedication to their roles.
