Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Judicial Academy Hosts Training to Address Gender-Based Violence

Peshawar: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Judicial Academy (KPJA), in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), has successfully conducted a two-day training session aimed at enhancing the capabilities of court staff in handling gender-based violence (GBV) cases. The event, which took place from July 2nd to 3rd, 2024, focused on increasing awareness and providing practical skills to effectively support GBV survivors.

According to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Judicial Academy – Peshawar, the training saw participation from 28 court staff members from districts including Khyber, Swat, Chitral Lower, Bajaur, Peshawar, Kurram, and Mardan. The program was inaugurated by Mr. Jehanzeb Shinwari, Director General of KPJA, who emphasized the importance of creating a supportive environment for women in the judiciary.

Miss Chamila Hemma Thagana, Program Manager for Rule of Law at UNDP Pakistan, also addressed the attendees, underscoring the collaboration’s commitment to improving women’s access to justice, particularly in the context of GBV.

The concluding ceremony was presided over by Mr. Shinwari, with Mr. Ikhtiar Khan, Registrar of the Peshawar High Court, serving as the chief guest. Mr. Khan highlighted the pivotal role of court staff in ensuring justice for GBV victims and stressed their responsibility in facilitating an efficient judicial response to such sensitive cases.
