Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Irrigation Minister Announces Initiatives to Boost Sector Efficiency

Peshawar, In an assertive move to enhance the irrigation sector’s productivity, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Irrigation Minister, Aqibullah Khan, has unveiled a comprehensive strategy to modernize the sector and optimize water resource management in the region.

According to Directorate General Information and PRs – Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Minister Khan, during a detailed sectoral review with key department officials, including Secretary Irrigation Muhammad Tahir and Chief Engineer Engineer Ghulam Ishaq Khan, articulated a series of forward-looking measures. These include an inventory and recovery of department-owned lands currently under unauthorized occupation, streamlining procedures for civil canal management across the province, and implementing robust strategies to curtail water wastage.

Highlighting the significance of agriculture to the region’s economy, Minister Khan stressed the urgency of curbing illegal encroachments on agricultural land and achieving a 100% water tax collection target. These steps are envisioned to enhance the department’s revenue, contributing to provincial economic growth.

Furthermore, the minister committed to addressing the department’s immediate challenges, including staffing shortages and the optimization of departmental assets such as vehicles and machinery. This comprehensive approach underscores the government’s dedication to revitalizing Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s irrigation infrastructure, ensuring sustainable water management and supporting agricultural productivity.
